Mermaids

I’ve always said that no two days of my working life are the same and the last 6 weeks are no better example. Taking production shots for Shine Theatre School in Cardiff has become a regular occurence and The Little Mermaid was a great final show before the summer break as you can see by the images below. I’ve spent most of my career in theatres around the country so know just how intense dress rehearsals can be, so I know how important it is to get the shots without getting in the way and then leaving the creative team and cast to get on with notes and the first performance.

Below you can see a few of my favourite images from the performance - you can see more on the website

A Saturday Afternoon at the Theatre

You'd proabably think that the last thing a full time production manager would choose to do on a Saturday afternoon is head back into the darkness but this Saturday I'm off to The Dance House in Cardiff to capture some great shots for Shine Theatre Schools production of  Disney's The Little Mermaid its sure to be a great show and if the images from their last production of The Wizard of Oz are a guide then there will be some great pictures on the website soon

Great Feedback always makes you smile!

Who doesn't love having nice things said about them?

Dani & Sarah had an amazing day from the 18 of us squished into the smallest lighthouse i've ever seen to the amazing evening do at Portland house with over 150 guests it was a joy to take photos and meet people, We've just received this great email from them which we had to share.

Nick is simply the most wonderful person, and an absolutely first class photographer.

We had no idea what we wanted to start with, all we knew is that we did notlike posing for photos and we really wanted to capture the essence of our day, really without us even noticing. We wanted something really natural and relaxed. Nick and Ej were able to do just that for us. They spent time chatting to us about what we were planning for the day and what we wanted to achieve and they advised us on what sorts of photography we could have. Honestly we were not keen on capturing the 'things' from the day and we didn't want anything staged, but wow are we glad we took their advice . . . . six months on and already we have forgotten so much that happened on the day and being able to look back over every element is invaluable. It's like we can relive the day over and over. It was one of the most happy and magical days of our lives so far and Nick and Ej managed to capture it perfectly.

We had a pre-wedding shoot so we could get used to what it was like to be photographed, and it was so much less daunting than we thought it would be, in fact we barely noticed it going on. It was literally just a walk in the park with two lovely people. On the day it was the same, we don't remember most of the photos being taken and Nick managed to capture it all! From the stormy morning weather at the lighthouse followed amazingly by the sun shinning as we said our vows through to capturing our playful party in the night and most importantly for us our handsome dog!

We can't recommend Nick (and of course Ej) enough. If you want photographs that really capture the magic of your special day then they absolutely WILL deliver. Thanks so much – we want to do it all again... maybe we'll start planning anniversary celebrations just for an excuse.

What to do with the wedding rings

Taking photos of the happy couple and their guests is only part of the job. I tend to spend a good hour in between the getting ready shots taking photos of the inanimate. Sometimes it takes a little persuasion but so far  I've managed to liberate rings from their keeper and with just a little time and imagination have had some great results.

I try to go to every wedding with a t least a couple of ideas  be that letter fun or in the case of the wedding at The Aviator Hotel   (http://www.aviatorbytag.com/)  it was a no brainer to go with the a couple of planes in my pocket!

Taking some props along can make a big difference but some of my favorite images and IMHO the best are when you just happen upon something at the venue that helps make the perfect photo.

I literally fell over this little patch of mushrooms whilst having a quick stroll around the grounds at The Marwell Hotel (http://www.marwellhotel.co.uk/) the rings look great and the autumn colours tied in amazingly with the brides colour pallet.

As I mentioned - i always try to have a couple of ideas - the leaves had just the most amazing colours and the choice was absolutely endless.

James & Reeja at the Aviator Hotel Farnborough

It's always tricky when you get a wedding last minute and you just can't get to the venue before the big day. There's just so much you can learn from a site visit and having the opportunity to take some pre-wedding photos is a great way of finding those hidden areas that often make the best backgrounds.

Anyway James & Reeja announced their big day just after Christmas and I found myself 8 weeks later pulling up to the Aviator Hotel in Farnborough (www.aviatorbytag.com)

The Aviator hotel Farnborough

From the day we found out about the Aviator Hotel I'd started to plan my wish list, I'm a huge fan of its architecture and the amazing photo opportunities that it offers. But as with all buildings the architecture is only as good as the furnishings and every space at the Aviator just screams class.

The opportunities for great wedding photos are limitless from the foyer rotunda with its sweeping staircase

Through those oh so swanky lifts with their own cloud formations

Up to Level 4 and the SkyLounge and its foyer area - if sleek and modern are your thing - then you will struggle to find a better space.

Suffice to say I really like this hotel and the photos above only scrape the surface of the 200 or so shots of the hotel I took on the big day. There are a few more below if you fancy a peek!
